Ako Tahi - Our transition to school programme
As a former new entrant, primary school teacher, Bridget is aware of the importance of school readiness in order to transition smoothly from an early childcare experience, to a school classroom.
A major part of this at The Orchard Child Care is our 4 year olds program "Ako Tahi" This is held daily, for approx 30 minutes, for all 4 year olds. A strong focus of this time is extending our 4 year olds and their worlds. We extend our current focus through the worlds of language, culture, science and arts.
Another part of our transition programme is a once weekly lunch box day for 4 year olds. Four year olds are encouraged to bring a nutritious packed lunch one day a week (the day changes each term) in order to learn the importance of eating appropriate amounts at certain times (so there's still some left at lunch time).
We have a close relationship with Kaharoa School and Ngongotaha School.
We have children who graduate and go onto a number of schools within the Rotorua area, all equipped with the knowledge and attitudes to set them up for a lifelong learning journey.
